A 22-year-old Alexandria man has been convicted on four charges that stemmed from a January DUI crash that claimed the life of an 8-year-old boy.
A Virginia Circuit Court has found Victor Aldana guilty of involuntary manslaughter, reckless driving, driving while intoxicated and driving without a license in connection to the Jan. 15 crash.
Brian Hernadez-Chavez, 8, was walking along Duke Street with his mother on that Sunday afternoon when Aldana, who police say had a blood-alcohol level nearly twice the legal limit, struck and killed the boy after his Honda ran off the road.
The boy was pronounced dead at the scene, while his 31-year-old mother suffered two broken legs and a fractured pelvis.
Aldana will be sentenced on Aug. 2.
